Translating FormBuilder

Beginning with version 0.77 we have configured FormBuilder to allow translation of the administrative interface into alternate languages.  This means that all buttons and instructions on the FormBuilder management page can appear in your own language, if we have translations available.  We are looking for people who would be willing to help us with this translation process.

To translate this plugin, you will first need to get a piece of translation software called Poedit.  It can be found and downloaded from here:
http://www.poedit.net/

Once you have downloaded and installed that software, you may begin the process of translating FormBuilder.  You will also need to download and extract the most recent version of FormBuilder from the WordPress.org website.

To begin, you will need to extract the FormBuilder zip file you downloaded from WordPress.org to a folder on you computer.  Then you will need to load up Poedit and select File > New catalog from POT file.  Browse to and select the formbuilder.pot file in the /lang subfolder in the location where you unzipped the FormBuilder zip file.  This will load up the translation and you may begin translating the text strings from the FormBuilder interface.  More information on using the Poedit application itself can be found in the built-in help by selecting Help > Contents from the menu.

When you first create a new catalog from the FormBuilder POT file, the application will ask you what filename you want to save the new catalog as.  The correct format for the filename is “formbuilder-en_EN.po” where “en_EN” is actually the ISO 639 2-letter codes for language and country.  For example, if you were creating an Italian language localization, the file would be called “formbuilder‑it_IT.po”.  You would save this file in the /lang folder along side of the formbuilder.pot file. Once saved, you may continue to translate the text as necessary.

Once the translation has been finished and saved, you may send the translated file to us for inclusion into FormBuilder.  The file to send us will be named what you called it earlier and will have a “.po” extension.  There *may* also be a similar file with a “.mo” extension in the folder which can be ignored.  Once we have checked the translated text to ensure it is correct, your translation will most likely be included with future releases of the FormBuilder plugin.

Thank you for taking the time to help us with this. We are looking forward to seeing FormBuilder in many new local languages soon.
