To help make your testimony usable on our sites, please read through this brief list of frequently asked questions BEFORE submitting!
What is a testimony?
Your testimony tells the story of how you came to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
What should I NOT put in my testimony?
Your testimony is not just a time where you felt God working in your life, a lesson God taught you, or how you trusted God to lead you through difficult circumstances. These are all wonderful stories that should be told, but these writings should be submitted as articles. A testimony specifically tells how you came into a personal relationship with God.
Who will be reading my testimony?
TruthMedia’s websites receive over 600,000 visitors per month, so there is a huge potential readership for your story!
What should I talk about then?
You should explain your life:
1) Your life & how you lived before you knew Christ
2) What caused you to come to faith & how that happened
3) Your new reborn life now
Make it personal and give discreet details whenever appropriate to help the reader really come to understand how the change came in your life! Don’t paint the Christian life like a bed of roses, be honest in your struggles and successes.
Protect the privacy of others. Do not specifically name other people or places in your testimony or, if reference is necessary note substitute names, indicating "not their real name".
How can I make sure people will want to read my testimony?
You have to catch people’s attention and draw them in! Here are some ways we’ve found that you can make testimony effective:
− Pray. Ask the Lord to give you wisdom and guidance as you write (James 1:5-6)
− Keep it short, about 500-1,000 words maximum. Space is limited and people read differently on the web. The limit is critical.
− Assume zero knowledge. Will your story make sense to someone who doesn’t know God personally?
− Don’t use Christian lingo. (Ex. sanctification, redemption, born again, etc) Doing so will likely confuse or put off potential readers. Here are some examples!
