Witnessing – How To

Question:

I’m the only person in my family who goes to church and I really want to tell them more about what is happening in my life, but I don’t know where to start.

Response:

If you desire to tell another person about Christ than Philemon verse 6 in the N.I.V. is for you. It says, “I pray that you would be active in sharing your faith…(why)…so that YOU will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.” Notice that as you witness, not only will the one with whom you are sharing benefit from it, but also your own appreciation for Christ will grow stronger.

When one person tells another person about Christ he should do it simply and clearly with love and gentleness.  For many years I’ve done trainings helping people present a Gospel message on a one-to-one basis so that the ones being shared with will know how to receive Christ by the end of the presentation.  You can do it too and even show others how to do it.

You need the help of a clear and simple Gospel presentation like the ones that I use, like the following:

Would you like to know God Personally? (Discover Purpose)

The Four Spiritual Laws (God Loves the World)

Here you will find a 4-point presentation that leads to a suggested prayer.  Memorize, or copy the complete presentation, and simply start reading it in a conversational manner to people who will listen.  You could introduce the presentation by saying, “(Name), I have come across something that makes a lot of sense to me.  Could I share it with you to see what you think?”  Encourage them to repeat the prayer right there if ready to do so.  If they don’t, that’s all right too.  You have done your part.

God will honour you with results, as you are faithful in making the message clear.

Remember, you do not have to win the person to Christ, that is the work of the Holy Spirit.  All you have to do is present the facts clearly in the power of the Holy Spirit, leaving the results to God.

Should you have people who receive Christ as a result of your witness, they will need help to understand the basics of the Christian life.  You can direct them to:

Offer to do the lessons together with that person.
