Self-Esteem

Request:

I’ve struggled my whole life with feeling like I wasn’t worth loving. Help!

Response:

Acknowledge your weaknesses but don’t concentrate on them.  If you do, you will drag yourself down.  Instead think of your strengths, your abilities, your gifts.  God has given all of us some abilities that make us worthwhile.  Sometimes we don’t recognize them or are not willing to acknowledge them.  Read Gideon’s story in Judges 6 in the Bible and notice what God thought of Gideon (verse 12), as compared to what he thought of himself (verse 15).  Whenever you feel a little down on yourself concentrate on what God thinks of you and not on what you think of yourself.

Meditate on the following:

  • Genesis 1:26-28 – you are created in His image and valuable in His sight
  • Psalm 8:4-5 – you have a high position with God
  • John 3:16 – He loved you enough to die for you
  • Psalm 91:11-12, Hebrews 1:14, Luke 12:12, Matthew 5:13-14, John 14:1-3, 26. He thinks enough of you to want to guard, guide, protect and give you eternal life.

Stop to thank God for what He impresses you with as you ponder these Scriptures.
