Purpose for Living

Request:

I am so bored with my life, it feels meaningless. How can I find purpose for my life?

Response:

Hi _____,

My name is  _____ and I am an online mentor for this site. Thanks for your questions. Life gets boring and confusing if we don’t find purpose for it. I may not have a full answer for you but here are a few starting thoughts.

I hope this will help you as you pursue God’s purpose for your life. You were created by God for a very specific reason, and only you are qualified to fulfill the mission God has placed within your very own DNA.

The Bible teaches that God created you with five purposes in mind. He created you for…

1. Worship – you were planned for God’s pleasure; to bring Him enjoyment as you praise and honor Him.
2. Fellowship – you were formed to be part of God’s family through acceptance of Jesus as your Savior (John 1:12).
3. Discipleship – you were created to become like Christ – not to become God, or a god, but to develop the kind of Christ-like character qualities as listed in Galatians 5:22.
4. Ministry – you were shaped for God’s service. By doing acts of service to others you are serving God (Ephesians 2:10).
5. Mission – you were made to tell others about Christ.

The Bible says, “David served God’s purpose in his own generation.” I can’t think of a better epitaph. That’s what I want for my life – that when I die people will say, “He served God’s purpose in his generation.”

And that’s what I want people to say about you, that you served God’s purpose in your generation.

Each of the points above could be a whole chapter in a book. In fact, they are, in a book called “The Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren.

To begin to understand God’s purpose for you life, you need to start by inviting Jesus Christ into your life if you haven’t already done so. If you have never done that before, check out this link  Discover Purpose .Follow the presentation through to a suggested prayer. Make it your prayer. Then use the same presentation to share Christ with other people. As you do so you will be fulfilling the #5 purpose mentioned above. Jesus said in John 10:10, “I came that they might have life, and might life abundantly”, which means a life full of meaning and purpose. It all begins with Jesus.
