Online Realities
The Reality of Online Evangelism and Discipleship
by Karen Schenk
Most visitors come to websites through search engines. They are usually looking to meet a felt-need. Regardless of how they end up on your site, you may only have one or two seconds to engage them with a ministry opportunity.
Everyone’s deep need is to know God personally, but many times it is a person’s felt needs that are the starting points to share the real and lasting solution in Jesus. God has given TruthMedia the privilege of sharing the gospel with those people nearly 8,000 times a day, every day of the year.
In fact, each month nearly 1,500 people indicate receiving Christ or rededicating their lives by checking the box at the end of the Gospel presentations.
People are able to be followed up almost immediately. Each person who writes to one of the TruthMedia websites are personally responded to by one of our 400+ trained volunteers. These volunteers are called mentors. Throughout the various websites, visitors are invited to interact by asking questions, giving prayer requests, completing online courses and sharing their gospel decisions. These become avenues for mentors to reach into their lives, share truth and help them grow in their faith. Each month TruthMedia receives over 2000 emails that are personally followed up.
While much opportunity is given to the visitors to email the sites, the visitor is also encouraged to participate in moderated or open chat sessions as well as communicate on the discussion boards. Opportunity for people to interact is given throughout the entire website.
