Responding to High Needs People
We may be having a great discussion in a hosted chat, and in pops a "high needs" person who makes numerous attempts to redirect the conversation. As hosts in chat we must realize that we cannot possibly meet the personal needs of all participants. When a "high needs" person disrupts a session we suggest you do the following:
- Pray first and ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom, compassion and guidance for this person.
- Remind this person that the session is a hosted chat on a specific topic and encourage them to join the discussion or wait for open chat to discuss his/her needs.
- Direct a question on the chat topic to that particular person, giving another opportunity to stay on topic and join the discussion.
- Recommend that the person contact a mentor on the site, give him/her the mentor link: Christian Women Today - Ask Us Women Today Magazine - Ask Us The Life Interactive - Ask Us
- Chat with the person in private chat about the necessity of staying on topic and the value of signing up with a mentor for one-on-one encouragement and prayer.
- If the person continually disrupts hosted chats sessions, please send a chat feedback to notify the Interactive Director, Doris Beck. Doris may send an e-mail to the participant underscoring the need to abide by chat room policies. Click here
