To be relevant to the public you need to engage them in a way that they are able to relate to and understand.  Here is a great example of this:

This articles is a rare example of an author taking a relevant cultural phenomenon or event, writing an engaging and well researched article about from a more or less secular perspective initially and then transitioning into discussing faith issues.
